Who we are

Slate Row (slaterow.co.uk) is run by a sole trader in the United Kingdom, who is the controller of the personal data described here. Our name and postal address are on our About and contact page. Email hello@slaterow.co.uk.

Visiting our pages

Our site is served by Cloudflare. To deliver a page and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare handles technical details of your visit, such as your IP address and your browser’s request. Cloudflare acts for us as our processor. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website.

Our search and gift finder work on our own site. We don’t keep what you type into them.

Clicking a link to a shop

Links to shops go through a short step on our own site (slaterow.co.uk/go/). When you click one, we record the time, which link it was and the country Cloudflare gives for the visit. We don’t record your IP address, your browser’s details or any identifier, and we set no cookie, so these records don’t identify you. We use them to count clicks on each page and to check them against the commission we’re paid; our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running the site and being paid correctly.

Cloudflare holds each record until our server copies it, usually within 15 minutes, and then deletes it there; Cloudflare keeps its own short recovery copy of that store for up to 30 days. Our server is run on Oracle Cloud in London. We keep the records for up to six years, with our business records, because they show which Pins and pages earn; they don’t identify anyone. Copies are also in our encrypted backups (below).

The step then sends you on through Awin, the affiliate network that pays us, to the shop. Awin and the shop see that you came from our page. On their own sites they may store a cookie on your device to record that the visit came from us, so the sale can be credited; that cookie is theirs, under their own cookie notices, and they ask for your consent where the law needs it. Awin’s privacy notice is at awin.com/gb/privacy. We receive reports of sales and commission from Awin, which don’t identify you.

If you email us

Mail to our address is passed on by Cloudflare’s email routing to our inbox at Proton Mail. We use your email address and message to reply and to keep a record of the conversation; our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you. We don’t add you to any mailing list. We keep emails you send us only as long as we need them to reply and for our records.

Pinterest

We publish Pins to our own Pinterest account, each one reviewed and approved by us first, and may read summary statistics for our own Pins. We don’t collect or store data about other Pinterest users, and we don’t sell or share data we receive from Pinterest.

Backups

Each night our server’s database, which holds the click records above, is encrypted and copied to two storage services, Cloudflare R2 and Backblaze B2, so it can be restored if something fails. Only we hold the key to read those copies.

Who handles data for us

• Cloudflare: serves the site, holds the click records until our server copies them, passes on email, and stores one backup copy.
• Oracle (Oracle Cloud, London): runs our server and its database.
• Backblaze: stores the second encrypted backup copy.
• Proton: our email inbox.
• Awin: the affiliate network a shop link passes through, a separate company with its own privacy notice.

We don’t sell personal data. Some of these services may handle data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer relies on UK adequacy regulations (for example for the EU and Switzerland), the UK–US data bridge for certified US companies, or the UK’s approved contract terms.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Email hello@slaterow.co.uk; we reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Changes

If we add a newsletter, change how we count clicks or start measuring visits in any other way, we’ll update this notice first and change its date above.
